Porsche Releases first Official Teaser Shot of Panamera Sedan

Even though we're still a few months away from the official debut of the new Panamera, Porsche has rolled out the first teaser image of its long-awaited fourth model series that will join the 911, Boxster/Cayman and Cayenne. The cryptic photo shows that the four-door, four seat Panamera features a further evolution of Porsche's characteristic family face with tear-shaped headlamps and a pair of LED day time running lights incorporating the turn indicators.

According to the German automaker, the release of the teaser image coincides with the beginning of an advertising campaign for the sports sedan which includes the launch of the Panamera Online Magazine at porsche.com/panamera. The next phase of the advertising campaign will be on 20 October with double-page ads in leading news and business magazines, again offering a sneak preview of Porsche's latest model. -Continued

The new Panamera sedan is expected to enter the market in early 2009 where it will be offered initially with naturally aspirated and turbocharged V8 engines followed by a smaller V6 gasoline unit. In late 2010 - early 2011, Porsche will also introduce the Panamera Hybrid featuring a full-hybrid design where the hybrid module (clutch and electric motor) is positioned between the combustion engine (presumably a V6 unit) and the transmission, while the battery pack will be located in the luggage compartment. The parallel hybrid system will allow the Panamera to operate with the gasoline engine, the electric motor or a combination of both.

After a teaser announcement in early September, Hyundai decided to release a new set of images and further details on its new i20 supermini. At the Paris Show we'll only see a five-door model but according to Hyundai, a sportier three-door i20 version will debut in January 2009. Hyundai has yet to release pictures of the five-seater interior but the Korean automaker said that the i20 will offer numerous 'smart' storage spaces along with a 40:60 split flat-folding rear bench with a low lip for easy loading into the 295-litre luggage compartment.

The i20 will debut with a range of seven petrol and diesel engines. The petrol line-up comprises of the 78PS 1.2-liter, 100PS 1.4-liter and 126PS 1.6-liter units all available with five-speed manual transmissions, with the option of four-speed automatic gearboxes on the 1.4 and 1.6 models. As for the turbo diesel powerplants, the i20 will be offered with a 1.4-liter unit available in two specifications - 75PS and 90PS - while the flagship 1.6-liter motor is available in 115PS and 128PS trim. Both 1.4 models come with five-speed manual transmissions, while the flagship 1.6 is mated to a six-gear manual drivetrain.

When the i20 goes on sale in

later this year, it will be offered in four trim levels - Classic, Comfort, Style and Premium. All trim levels feature six-airbags, ABS, climate control, a four-speaker radio, CD and MP3 audio system, a multi-function steering wheel, tire pressure monitoring system, height-adjustable driver seat, keyless entry and electrically operated windows and side mirrors as standard.

When put aside to the standard Golf VI models, the 2009 GTI manages to stand out thanks to the new headlight clusters, a distinct front bumper with repositioned fog lights, a larger roof spoiler and a new rear bumper that integrates dual exhaust pipes that have been moved to the far corners of the car.

Inside, owners of the previous Golf GTI will feel right at home as with the exception of a few parts that were pinched from the Passat CC, the overall styling of the fifth-generation model has been retained on the new GTI. The most unique features on the car are the black-and-white checkered tweed bucket seats and the sporty, flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Under the bonnet, the new GTI gets a slightly more powerful latest generation turbocharged 2.0-liter TFSI engine that delivers an output of 210HP, up from 200HP and a maximum torque figure of 280 Nm or 207-lbs/ft at 1.800 rpm (same as the previous GTI).

Hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox or optionally, a dual clutch DSG semi-auto gearbox, the 2009 Golf GTI accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h (62mph) in 7.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 239 km/h or 148 mph. For the record, the outgoing 200HP GTI features the same 0-100 km/h sprint time and a maximum speed of 235 km/h or 146 mph.
